Filling in forms – My passport application

Originally posted on Instagram this post has been extended.

I want to tell you a story. Pull up a brew and read on.

10 years ago I had to apply for a passport as it’s my main form of ID and needed it for being involved with the Paralympics 2012 in London. My dyslexic anxiety over completing forms nearly stopped me from having an opportunity of a lifetime.
But there was a woman working on the games who didn’t know me but believed that I should have that opportunity and told me to sort out my passport.

So off I went to Peterborough passport office to get a passport. I can’t thank this woman enough as the games were an opportunity to start my journey of capturing moments and learn so much about photography.

10 years on and I need another passport, but this time I did my application online and took my own photo. You never know who really wants you to win, so celebrate your wins.

In 10 years of taking photos I never thought I would be taking my own photo for my passport. Or filling in my passport application online. But I unwittingly took some really heartfelt photos of which I am really proud of.

These shots made me feel quite vulnerable and empowered at the same time. I used my Olympus OM-D E-M10II with a 45 mm 1.8 lens. It was set up on a tripod and I used my mobile phone as a remote.

I’m thinking about extending more of my Instagram posts into blog post so watch this space.

Update: my passport was renewed and sent back in three weeks. Thank you.

Thank you for sharing this post and the struggles of dealing with paperwork when you have dyslexia. Helps us understand more.

The words “I’m thinking about extending more of my Instagram posts into blog post so watch this space.” is exactly why I stopped sharing on Insta. The fact that you can not include clickable links and posts on the feed are not searchable made that decision even easier.
